In the spirit of the album I had a number of things I had to consider when writing the track. They were:
- The initial theme... Mine was something like 'Take the accidental and amplify it." This suited my wish to do some live stuff.
- The previous track from Jonny. It was a fine tune but had no idea where to take it (so ultimately settled on a noisy fade in!!!)
- I was closing the album. This was a certain privilege and took some research on exactly what I wanted to do. For me there were two options - the acoustic come-down or the epic closer. After listening to loads of stuff the two things that really stuck in my head were Something In The Way by Nirvana or The Grand Gates of Kiev by Mussorsky. I tried a few acoustic ideas bit they seemed totally fucking lame so decided to go for EPIC.
- The news about rudi was very, very sad and coincided with one of my mates best friends sadly passing away too and I couldn't get this out of my head. Life really is too short for some.

This all made my head spin a bit and ultimately I decided that I was going to quit the job that I once loved but had come to hate as it was ruining my physical and mental health and find something new and try to find the positives in the future. I wrote the resignation letter on the Friday, handed it in and the locked myself away for the Saturday to get this track down.
----
- I started by rigging up all my effects that I had collected and recorded a couple of riffs. I recorded the feedback and ambient noise that forms the outro and intro almost by accident but always wanted to keep as much of that in as possible. I settled on a groove with the bass and then added the guitar lines on top and only slightly edited that afterwards. When down I played the drums live over the whole thing and then finally went back and and re-recorded the bass lines to mix it up a bit. You might hear faults but overall I am pretty happy with it (though I would have loved to have done a much longer version).
Anyway, it's a piece of music that came from quite a sad place but ultimately when I listen to this it makes me feel happy and appreciate that accidents and mistakes are all part of the normality; what we got to do is deal with the consequences and try to make the best choices moving forward.
Nice one. And thanks again to NoSleep and everyone else for their efforts and contributions. And to rudi and everyone else who did stuff for the first album for making me raise my game.
