Using the prescribed method of finding a band name and album title (Gökçekent + Enough to be lazy) and the oblique strategy of "Put in earplugs", the track was originally intended to be either gabber-esque or something with a naughty little Throbbing Gristle influence. After finding some Turkish folk singing and noodling about with it, the original gabber/industrial idea didn't seem to work. So, starting with some gissando guitar and a new drum pattern, the track was rebuilt pretty much from scratch rather than dropping the vocal samples altogether.
The result was the first version of "Şöyle böyle", which translates as "so-so", which fitted both the album title and my own opinion of the outcome.
Some time later - well after the originally suggested two month deadline in fact *whistles nonchalantly* - NoSleep contacted me and asked whether the track had been mixed on headphones. Yup. And it was pretty obvious. A remix was attempted (from the original poor quality stems, some of which had been deleted during a cleanup) to try and put a little more oomph into a mix for NS to master. I'm guessing NS has managed to do something with the result and who knows... it may even be worth changing the track title from "Şöyle böyle" to "Bir tezek parlatma".
Looking back it's fair to say that I've learned a little since composing the track and would do some things a lot differently today. Cheers to NoSleep and all the other contributors. It's been fun.
