My (2nd) oblique strategy (given to me when my name came up in the hat)was "Imagine the piece as a set of disconnected events" (the initial oblique strategy, given to me at the start of the project, never came into play); which was the initial inspiration for my track. Having started on several disconnected themes I came across a rhythm pattern (guitar & drums) that I decided to go with as a basis for the entire track. I improvised a bunch of chord changes using this rhythm, then edited the result into an overall structure for the piece.
As most of my playing experience in the last 4 years has been performing on NINJAM (an online interactive jamming application), I decided to make the entirety a kind of improvised jam based around the constantly moving chord structure (so I had to practice playing over the changes a few times). The last thing I added was the bass (my usual instrument when playing on NINJAM). I staged it to change direction every 16 or 32 bars (to keep to the theme); hence the title of the piece; it's a multi-layered jam sandwich.
The analog synth noises that come in and out of the track suggested to me the idea of UFO which goes rather well with the the track which follows this, submitted by the late (and wonderful) rudi. Which makes my inclusion of a voice sample of rudi right at the end of the track even more apt.
